Hi! I’m Maureen!
My mental health journey began in maybe a similar manner to yours’s right now. While researching different therapists to call for my first appointment, I found myself at a crossroads between “how is this person going to help me” and “I don’t know what else to do”.
I was 19.
Reflective, insightful and inspired, therapy gave me something I haven’t felt in some time- hope. I decided then and there that my life’s work was to pass this gift I was given on to others. To help others find ways to heal.
My first professional experience in the mental health field was in 2008. I worked with adults who were involved with the State of Connecticut Department of Mental Health and Addiction Services for treatment of their dual diagnoses.
While working on the completion of my Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy, I interned at a children’s extended day and intensive outpatient setting. Beyond the invaluable experience of working with children and their families, I was provided with many lenses of client’s struggles and the support (or lack thereof) of larger systems.
After graduation, I worked within an intensive in-home program that provided in-home counseling to children and their families. For many of these children, my treatment was the last treatment intervention before child protective services involvement, hospitalization or detainment. This experience exposed me to chronic family mental health issues as well as extensive trauma. I was promoted within my agency into different supervisory roles where I continued to be involved with families as well as provide clinical supervision and managerial oversight to multiple staff members and other supervisors.
The experience and study of grief has always been close to my heart. I completed my training to become a Certified Grief Recovery Specialist through The Grief Recovery Method in 2017. Grief and loss is part of the human experience, fails to be accurately articulated with words, and it is something we all share.
I moved into private practice in 2017 in Connecticut. After a Midwest relocation to the Columbus area, I opened my Ohio private practice in 2020.
2021 marked the next professional step for me as I began my journey to become an AAMFT Approved Supervisor. I received this designation in 2024. I also currently hold the supervisory status designation in the State of Ohio on my independent license.
Many years have passed from that day I made the first call to a therapist. Each day I continue doing “the work” myself. I know first hand the strength it takes to reach out for help. I opened my private practice in hopes that I can continue to help others who find themselves at their own life’s crossroads. My role is to provide guidance, support and to help find new ways to navigate these paths. Together, we can uncover your existing strength and resilience. Through treatment, my clients have been able to find a greater sense of peace and stability. My approach to counseling is simple: to provide individual care to every client that comes into my office with empathy and support.
On a personal level you can find me drinking coffee, outside with my husband and two children, reading on my Kindle, and playing unnecessarily complicated board games.
